Conflict of Interest Policy 

Introduction 

Seoul School of Wine has been approved by WSET as an Approved Programme Provider (APP). As a regulated awarding organisation, WSET is required to identify, monitor and manage actual, potential and perceived conflicts of interest (‘Conflicts of Interest’). This is essential to safeguard the integrity of WSET qualifications and promote confidence in WSET processes. 

This document offers guidance to individuals engaged in activities undertaken on behalf of WSET (the awarding organisation of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust) which have potential to lead them to act contrary to the interests of WSET in the development, delivery, assessment and award of its regulated qualifications. 

It defines what is meant by conflict of interest, describes such conflicts of interest in the context of working with WSET, identifies those conflicts of interest that can be managed and are therefore acceptable and those that cannot be manage and are therefore unacceptable. It also gives examples of potential conflicts of interest. 

As Seoul School of Wine is a one-person operation, Ms Ahyoung JEONG (jayneswinehouse@gmail.com and +82-10-8829-0269) provides several roles including exams officer, course educator, and internal assessor. The awareness of possible Conflict of Interest and the application of the Conflict of Interest Policy, hence, is of utmost importance. Seoul School of Wine will make sure that any potential Conflicts of Interest will be well managed and therefore acceptable.

Definition of Conflict of Interest 

A Conflict of Interest exists where an individual has interests or loyalties that could adversely influence their judgement, objectivity or loyalty to WSET when conducting activities associated with WSET qualifications. 

Examples of Conflicts of Interest in the context of an awarding organisation include: 

• The undertaking of any moderation of assessment of student by an individual who has a personal interest in the result of the assessment for any or all individuals concerned; 
• The tutoring of students by an individual involved in the assessment process; 
• The undertaking of a WSET qualification by any individual employed by an Approved Program Provider; 
• The undertaking of a WSET qualification by any individual employed by WSET; 
• The invigilation of a WSET assessment by any individual involved in the delivery of training leading to the assessment; 
• The coaching of students by any individual involved in the assessment of student scripts or the authoring of examination questions; 
• The employment by an APP of individuals engaged in the delivery of taught programmes or in the role of Internal Assessor in another APP; 
• The investigation of a non-compliance incident by someone who is unable to act impartially. 

Some of these Conflicts of Interest can be managed and are therefore acceptable. For example, the marking of WSET Level 3 tasting assessments by Internal Assessors is verified by WSET to mitigate the risk of a Conflict of Interest. Similarly, where an employee of the WSET APPs undertakes a WSET qualification, measures can be put in place to maintain the integrity of the assessment, provided this has been notified to WSET in advance. 

Some Conflicts of Interest cannot be managed and are not acceptable. For example, it would be inappropriate for an individual involved in the authoring of examination questions or the compilation of examination papers to teach or coach students. 

If it is still not satisfied, the complainant should inform the Head of Quality Assurance (HQA) in writing via email:  QA@wsetglobal.com immediately. Conflict of Interest declarations will be recorded by WSET on the Conflicts of Interest Register.

이해 상충의 정의

이해 상충은 개인이 WSET 자격과 관련된 활동을 수행할 때 WSET에 대한 판단, 객관성 또는 충성도에 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있는 이해관계 또는 충성도가 있는 경우에 존재합니다.

수여 조직의 맥락에서 이해 상충의 예는 다음과 같습니다.

관련된 모든 개인에 대한 평가 결과에 개인적 관심이 있는 개인이 학생에 대한 평가를 조정하는 것;

평가 과정에 참여하는 개인에 의한 학생 개인지도

승인된 프로그램 제공업체에 고용된 개인의 WSET 자격 취득

WSET에 고용된 개인의 WSET 자격 취득

평가로 이어지는 교육 제공에 관련된 모든 개인이 WSET 평가를 감독합니다.

학생 스크립트 평가 또는 시험 문제 작성에 관련된 개인에 의한 학생 지도

다른 APP에서 교육 프로그램 제공 또는 내부 평가자 역할에 종사하는 개인을 APP에 고용

공정하게 행동할 수 없는 사람에 의한 비준수 사건의 조사.
